Mac OS X public beta now available!
System Requirements
Our Try-Sound test system works on major operating systems like
Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and
Windows XP, Vista and 7.
We recommend having a MIDI- or USB-Keyboard connected and installed. However, it is also possible to play the instruments by mouse clicks or by prepared MIDI-Sequences.
Registration
To use the free Try-Sound-Service you will need to register and log in to our website. Now you can choose your start-up Plug-In, your operating system and an available time slot. The selected Plug-In can be changed at any time during your session. After creating a session, you can download the Try-Sound-Login-Tool directly from our website or via the provided link in your confirmation email. Please be aware that Popup-Blockers should be disabled for an instant download!
Windows Try-Sound-Session-Installer
This software needs no installation and does not modify any system settings or files. The software will be valid for only one session at the requested time slot. Please save this "Try-Sound_session_XXX.exe" on your PC and double click it at the requested time to start testing the selected instrument.
Mac OS Try-Sound-Session-Application
After downloading the zip package please start the Try-Sound-Client. This application allows you to select your audio profile and will then automatically start JollysFastVNC (provided by
jinx.de). This application can be used for free, after it has been activated, by simply pressing the “Trial” button. You might consider supporting the developers work and buy the software. Now you should be able to play the selected instrument.
The Try-Sound-Session
Each session is limited to 25 minutes. After your session has been terminated, you will be asked to fill out a short report about your experience. This will help us to optimize the system and grant you a better test experience in the future. Feel free to book another session whenever you like.
Latency and Sound Quality
The latency and sound quality depends on your internet connection. We offer several presets with latencies down to 90ms (MacOS) and MP3 resolutions up to 320kB/s (it should be possible to work with our default setting – 200ms and 128kB/s – on a 2000k connection). You can change the Latency/Sound preset at any time during your session to find the optimal setting. With a fast internet connection you can try to reduce the latency and increase the sound quality to the best possible values.
Technical Limits
Please notice: Try-Sound was developed as a realtime virtual instrument evaluating system not as a realtime play/practise system!
Midi connection
A red MIDI symbol indicates that a MIDI event has been received. The sound is transferred in (nearly) real time as a MP3 stream back to your PC. There is an indispensable on going natural ambience in the background – sorry for that :-)
Ready-To-Play
After you have been logged in, your selected Plug-In is ready for testing and prepared to start playing a demo sequence with the first preloaded sound. You can start/stop this playing by clicking the name of the MIDI Sequence. Please don’t click or move your mouse during the automated “autoload” actions.
If you don´t have a Midi-keyboard connected
There are several sound presets available in the bottom line with an adapted demo sequence. If there is no Midi/USB-keyboard connected you will find some MIDI files which you can use for playing any loaded preset (although in some case it will not prove satisfactory).
Full access to all parameters
Feel free to change parameters and to load any other sound using the Plug-In´s regular interface. The autoload function shows you the first steps and you can find a quickstart manual for most of the Plug-Ins by clicking the HELP symbol. You can switch to any other of our installed instruments during your session by simply clicking the product symbol in the left column.
Try before you buy!
Now have fun!
